News Theatreworks USA to Stage We the People: America Rocks! as Free Summer Offering We the People: America Rocks!, the new musical for young audiences with a book by Joe Iconis and songs from a host of composers, will presented by Theatreworks USA this summer at the Lucille Lortel Theatre Off-Broadway.

Theatreworks will present the free summer run July 8-Aug. 13; the opening night gala is July 14. Gordon Greenberg will direct the 60-minute musical. Michele Lynch (Everyday Rapture) will choreograph.

Iconis (The Black Suits, Things to Ruin) penned the book for We the People, which has songs contributed by Brad Alexander and Kevin Del Aguila; Sam Forman and Eli Bolin; Tommy Newman; Ryan Scott Oliver; Adam Overett; and Erik Weiner, Mark Weiner and Jordan Allen-Dutton. Songs by Iconis are also featured in the musical.

The cast will feature F. Michael Haynie as John Adams, Abe Goldfarb as Benjamin Franklin, Jamie LaVerdiere as Thomas Jefferson, Colin McAdoo as George Washington and Badia Farha as Dawn. Understudies for the production are Justin Flagg and Brittany N. Williams.

Here's how Theatreworks describes the production: "On a quest to win her school election, Dawn cares more about padding her college applications than making her school a better place. With the help of these Fab Four, she discovers that 'We the People' have the power to raise a patriotic ruckus and make a difference!"

Designing the production will be Adam Koch (scenic design), Lora LaVon (costume design), Jeff Croiter (lighting design) and Michael Eisenberg (sound design). J. Oconer Navarro will music direct with orchestrations by Greg Pliska. Theatreworks USA previously staged Iconis' The Plant That Ate Dirty Socks as its free youth theatrical presentation in 2008.
