Tony Award winner Jack O'Brien (The Coast of Utopia, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Hairspray) directed the Cincinnati-set play that began previews Nov. 5, 2012, and opened to a mixed critical reception Nov. 29. Dead Accounts played 27 previews and 44 regular performances.

The work had its world premiere last winter at the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.

Two-time Tony winner Butz (Speed-The-Plow, Catch Me If You Can, Wicked) stars as Jack, with Katie Holmes (All My Sons, "Dawson's Creek," "Pieces of April," "The Ice Storm") as his skeptical sister Lorna.

"What I love about this play is how Theresa very simply presents our two characters," Holmes told Playbill in a recent interview. "The stuff that we converse about in the play starts off like no big deal, and that's how sibling relationships are. You're not always hitting each other, you're not always hugging..."

"I loved the play, I really did," Butz added. "It's about a big, noisy, complicated Midwestern family — Catholic, which is my story — and it's so full of true warmth and sentiment, without becoming sentimental. Theresa Rebeck is a writer who really loves her characters and writes them with tremendous depth and care. Read the full Playbill interview here.

Tony Award nominee Jayne Houdyshell (Follies, Well) portrays Butz and Holmes' mother, with Judy Greer ("The Descendants") in her Broadway debut as the wife of Butz's character. Josh Hamilton (The Coast of Utopia) portrays one of Butz's childhood friends.

Here's how the play is billed: "Jack's unexpected return throws his family into a frenzy, and his sister Lorna needs answers. Is he coming home or running away? Where is his wife everyone hates? And how did he get all that money? Theresa Rebeck’s new comedy tackles the timely issues of corporate greed, small town values, and whether or not your family will always welcome you back… with no questions asked."

The design team included Tony nominee David Rockwell (scenic design), five-time Tony winner Catherine Zuber (costume design), David Weiner (lighting design) and Mark Bennett (sound design, original music).

Dead Accounts was produced by Jeffrey Finn, John N. Hart Jr., David Mirvish, Amy Nauiokas, Ergo Entertainment, Harriet Newman Leve, Double Gemini Productions, 3toGo Entertainment and The Shubert Organization.

Rebeck was a Pulitzer Prize finalist as the co-author of Omnium Gatherum. Her plays also include Bad Dates, The Scene and The Understudy and more. She has also authored the feature films "Harriet the Spy" and "Gossip," and earned a Peabody Award for "NYPD Blue." She is the creator of the NBC musical series "Smash."
