Directed by Gregory Boyd, Fool began previews Feb. 21 and will continue through March 16.

The cast features Jeffrey Bean as King, Elizabeth Bunch as Joss, Joey Collins as Elliot, Alma Cuervo as Queen, Sean Dugan as Marvel, Carine Montbertrand as Lizabeth and Jeremy Webb as Stuart.

According to the Alley, "Two kings get together and place a wager on their fools – a jester competition, and the funniest one gets to keep his head. Two evil minions have a lot to say about this, but not as much as the kitchen wench. And what's the queen been up to all night? A dramatical comical farcical tragical play about power, love and laughter, set in a medieval kitchen."

"I wanted to write a comedy about comedy, and about power, and the desperation behind comedy," Rebeck said in a statement. "My play is set in the sub-kitchen of a 14th century castle, where, on the whim of a royal, a court jester could lose a head. But a Fool’s wit, resilience and joy can turn things about and inspire us to laugh at the ridiculousness of it all. Is it similar to corporate power struggles in today's culture? One can only hope."

Rebeck was a Pulitzer Prize finalist as the co-author of Omnium Gatherum. Her plays also include Seminar, Dead Accounts, Bad Dates, The Scene and The Understudy and more. She has also authored the feature films "Harriet the Spy" and "Gossip" and earned a Peabody Award for "NYPD Blue." She was the creator of the NBC musical series "Smash." The production has scenic design by Neil Patel, costume design by Judith Dolan, lighting design by Japhy Weideman with music composition and sound design by Rob Milburn and Michael Bodeen. It has fight direction by Brian Byrnes.

The Alley has previously presented Rebeck's Bad Dates, The Scene, Mauritius and What We're Up Against.
