The Willow Cabin Theatre Company production of Thornton Wilder's Lucrece will open Off-Broadway on May 15 at the Ohio Theatre. The show, which originally opened at Broadway's Belasco in 1932 with Katherine Cornell will run through June 4.

Director Edward Berkeley (L'e Toile, The Mother of Us All, Waiting for the Parade) brings a minimalist edge to this production, which features Cynthia Besteman, John Bolger, Larry Gleason, Robert Harte, Charmaine Lord, David Paluck, Dede Pochos, Linda Powell, Christine Radman, Maria Radman, Atticus Rowe and Terry Schappert.

The story of the rape of Lucrece originally inspired Shakespeare's romantic poem, which prompted Andre Obey to write Le Viol De Lucrece which was then translated by Thornton Wilder, who won Pulitzer Prizes for the novel "The Bridge of San Luis Rey," and the plays The Skin of Our Teeth and Our Town.

The production team for Lucrece includes set designer John Kasarda, costume designer Meganne George and lighting designer Matthew McCarthy.

Tickets are $15. The Ohio Theatre is located at 66 Wooster Street. For information and tickets call (212) 886-1889. -- By Murdoch McBride
