"While waiting for the bus, the hopes, dreams and realities of three very different women collide to deliver surprise after surprise, few of which are truly 'expected,' while offering hilarious insights into life, death, therapy - and grocery shopping," according to the Stamford Center for the Arts. Stamford Center presents tours and produces its own resident professional works — like Expectations — on an eclectic season in the southern Connecticut city.
Performances of the warm play are seen at SCA's Rich Forum. Behind the scenes are Rob Hamilton (sets), Graham Kindred (lights), Amanda Walker (costumes), Laurie Brown (projections), Bill Gagliano (sound), Cindi Rush, C.S.A. The play was discovered by director George E. Moredock III during Stamford Center for the Arts' 2001 Fringe Festival of New Plays. Expectations previews on Jan. 20 and opens Jan. 21. Performances play 8 PM Tuesdays-Saturdays and 2 PM Sundays.
Eartha Kitt's career has spanned film, theatre, cabaret, television and music. From her infamous Catwoman in the television series, "Batman," a role that became synonymous with her and her trademark growl, to engagements at New York's Café Carlyle, to her Grammy-nominated album "Back in Business," and her third Tony and Drama Desk nominations for her portrayal of Dolores in the 2000 Broadway production of George C. Wolfe's The Wild Party.
Susan Greenhill appeared in Broadway's Crimes of the Heart. Her Off Broadway credits include Primary Stages (A.R. Gurney's Strictly Academic), Playwrights Horizons, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Actors Studio Theatre, Naked Angels, WPA, Culture Project.
Christine Albright's New York credits include performances at The Lark Theatre, The Cherry Lane Theatre and The Manhattan Theatre Source.
Playwright Susan Barsky's newest play, The "D" Word will be part of the 2005 Stamford's Fringe Festival of New Plays. Her other plays, Horse Sense, Luther and Fowl Play were seen at Triangle Theatre's Beast Festival in New York City the past three years. Fowl Play was also part of Manhattan Theatre Source's Estrogenius Festival. Her play, Owed to My First Love, was performed at the Stamford 2002 Fringe Festival. Her play, The Seeds of Greed, was the first prize-winner of the Great Platte River Playwrights Festival, in Nebraska, where she was a resident playwright. She studies with playwriting master, Milan Stitt, in New York City, and is a member of the Dramatists Guild.
