"This has been a workshop for us," George Stevens Jr., who wrote Thurgood, told the Times. "We've done 12 or 13 performances, and Westport embraced us. It was really a wonderful opportunity. And now it's just finding a block of time when we can do it on Broadway."

Leonard Foglia directed the Westport production. Foglia directed On Golden Pond, Jones' recent Broadway gig.

Jones played former Civil Rights great and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall in the new play. The work was co-produced by Bill Haber.

Jones' recent turn in On Golden Pond was cut short when the actor fell ill. He received a Tony nomination for his performance—his first Broadway turn in many years.
