110 in the Shade will run June 28-Aug. 7, but only the first two weeks (through July 10) will feature McDonald and Swenson. Their limited two-week engagement serves as a fundraiser for the nonprofit Hale Center Foundation for the Arts and Education.
The production will be staged in the round in the Hale Center's 300-seat theatre. Both McDonald (Ragtime, Master Class) and Swenson (Hair, Rock of Ages) appeared in the 2007 Broadway revival of the Tom Jones-Harvey Schmidt musical.
HCTO is a year-round community theatre in Orem, UT, that has been in operation since 1990. The theatre is run by Cody and Linda Hale, as well as Cody and Anne Swenson.
McDonald said in a statement, "We thought maybe we could sneak out, do a limited run and have some fun. Once I got to know about their organization, it reminded me so much about the theatre I grew up in in California. So it will feel like going back to my roots in a way."
110 in the Shade is a musical take on the play The Rainmaker by the team that created The Fantasticks. The most recent Broadway revival featured McDonald as Lizzie. Swenson was featured in the ensemble.
