Inherit The Wind, according to press notes, is "a fictionalized retelling of the famous 1925 'Monkey Trial,' in which science teacher John Scopes was tried and convicted for teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution, violating a Tennessee law that forbade teaching any theory that conflicted with the biblical conception of divine creation."
Wind originally played on Broadway in 1955 with Paul Muni and the aforementioned Ed Begley originating the lawyer roles to Tony Award-winning effect. The play was adapted for the screen in 1960 with Spencer Tracy, Fredric March and Gene Kelly in the lead roles. The work was last seen on Broadway in 1996 with Charles Durning and George C. Scott heading the cast.
Inherit the Wind will offer performances Monday-Saturday evenings at 8 PM with matinees Wednesdays and Saturdays at 2 PM.
