News Tomlin to Join Fifth Season of "Desperate Housewives" Tony and Emmy Award winner Lily Tomlin will make her debut on ABC's Emmy Award-winning series "Desperate Housewives" this season.

TV Guide.com reports that the comedic actress has been cast in a recurring role as the sister to Kathryn Joosten's character Mrs. McCluskey. Both Joosten and Tomlin appeared as the assistant to President Bartlet on "The West Wing."

Teri Hatcher, Nicollette Sheridan, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross and Eva Longoria star in the "primetime soap with a truly contemporary take on the 'happily ever after,' [taking] a darkly comedic look at suburbia, where the secret lives of housewives aren't always what they seem."

"Desperate Housewives" creator and scribe Marc Cherry frequently titles his episodes after Sondheim references, including "We're So Happy, You're So Happy," "The Ladies Who Lunch," "Children Will Listen," "Every Day a Little Death," "Move On," "Sunday in the Park with George," "No One Is Alone," "Not While I'm Around," "Your Fault," and "Into the Woods."

Known for her Tony-honored Broadway run of The Search for Signs of Intelligent Life in the Universe, Tomlin's extensive screen credits include "Nine to Five," "And the Band Played On," "All of Me," "A Prairie Home Companion," "I Heart Huckabees," "The West Wing," "The Incredible Shrinking Woman," "Lily: Sold Out" and "Edith Ann's Christmas: Just Say Noel."
