News Tony-Nominated Violet Director Tapped for Sundance Retreat Tony Award-nominated Violet director Leigh Silverman is among the artists selected for the second annual Sundance Institute/LUMA Foundation Theatre Directors Retreat, which begins July 29 in Arles, France.

Philip Himberg, artistic director of the Sundance Institute Theatre Program, supervises the retreat along with producing director Christopher Hibma and program associate Anne Kauffman, who will also participate. It runs through Aug. 11. According to Sundance, the retreat provides "resources to mid-career theatre directors and grew out of a need expressed by directors for an immersive forum in which to exchange ideas and best practices with peers; review and discuss new work, and participate in intensive discussions led by experienced arts professionals."

In addition to Silverman and Kauffman, participating directors include Mark Brokaw (Cinderella, The Lyons), Juliette Carrillo (Lydia), Ma-Yi Theatre Company artistic director Ralph B. Peña and Les Waters (Girlfriend).
