News Tony Nominee Christiane Noll Joins Cast of NBC's "Sound of Music" Christiane Noll, most recently seen on Broadway in Chaplin, will be part of the cast of NBC's live Dec. 5 broadcast of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein musical The Sound of Music.

The actress, who originated the role of Emma Carew in Broadway's Jekyll & Hyde and received a 2010 Tony Award nomination for her performance in Ragtime, has been cast as Sister Margaretta, according to her agent.

As previously reported, six-time Grammy Award winner Carrie Underwood is set to star as Maria with Stephen Moyer as World War I hero Capt. Georg Von Trapp. The three-hour production will be based on the original 1959 Broadway musical, which starred Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel.

The cast will also boast five-time Tony winner Audra McDonald as Mother Abbess, Laura Benanti as Elsa Schrader and Christian Borle as Max Dettweiler.

The music and lyrics for The Sound of Music were written by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, respectively, with a book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse.

The upcoming TV musical is executive-produced by Neil Meron and Craig Zadan. Beth McCarthy-Miller and Rob Ashford will serve as directors.

The presentation will be produced by Universal Television.
