Glee favorite Matthew Morrison (The Light in the Piazza, Finding Neverland) and West End-bound Adrienne Warren (Tina, Shuffle Along) are the latest stars to join Roundabout’s concert reading of Damn Yankees this winter. The two Tony Award nominees will take on the roles of Joe Hardy and Gloria Thorpe, respectively.
New additions to the one-night-only benefit concert also include Broadway veterans Annie Golden (Violet, Xanadu) as Doris, Julie Halston (On the Town, You Can't Take It With You) as Sister, and Tony nominee Stephen Bogardus (Love! Valour! Compassion!, Bright Star) as Joe Boyd.
The actors join the previously announced Danny Burstein as Van Buren, Victoria Clark as Meg Boyd, Whoopi Goldberg as Applegate, and Maggie Gyllenhaal as Lola.
Roundabout’s benefit presentation of Damn Yankees will take place December 11 at 7:30 PM at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre and will be directed by Roundabout Associate Artist Kathleen Marshall. Proceeds from the event will benefit the organization’s programming, education, and outreach initiatives.
In George Abbott, Douglass Wallop, Richard Adler, and Jerry Ross’ Tony-winning musical, a man sells his soul to the devil to become a baseball player and help his beloved Washington Senators beat the Yankees in the World Series. The show debuted on Broadway in 1955 and was last seen on Broadway in 1993.
The benefit presentation is presented by special arrangement with Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel, and Scott Landis.
