Tony Award winner Beth Leavel and Tony nominees Christopher Sieber and Brooks Ashmanskas will reprise their performances in The Prom when the musical comedy lands on Broadway later this year.

As previously reported, the musical by Matthew Sklar, Chad Beguelin, and Bob Martin will open November 15 at a Shubert theatre to be announced. The show made its world premiere in 2016 at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre. Casey Nicholaw (Broadway’s upcoming Mean Girls) directs and choreographs.

Set in a small Indiana town, The Prom tells the story of a high school student banned from her prom for wanting to bring her girlfriend. When her story reaches a group of eccentric Broadway actors, the group travels to the community in an earnest (and possibly misguided) attempt to help fight the injustice.

Leavel (The Drowsy Chaperone, Bandstand, the Muny’s upcoming Gypsy) will return to the role of Tony-winning Broadway performer Dee Dee Allen, with Sieber (Shrek, Spamalot, Matilda) as fellow actor (and cater waiter) Trent Oliver and Ashmanskas (Sunday in the Park with George, Shuffle Along, Fame Becomes Me) as Barry Glickman (another performer).

Also returning to the musical for its Broadway bow are Caitlin Kinnunen (The Bridges of Madison County) as Emma (the student barred from her prom), Isabelle McCalla (Aladdin) as head of student council Alyssa Greene, Angie Schworer (Something Rotten!) as chorus girl Angie, Josh Lamon (Groundhog Day) as Broadway press agent Sheldon Saperstein, and Atlanta-based Courtenay Collins in her Broadway debut as PTA President Mrs. Greene.

New to the show is Michael Potts (Broadway’s upcoming The Iceman Cometh, True Detective), who will play school principal Mr. Hawkins (played in Atlanta by Martin Moran).

Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
