Newly announced for the rock opera are Tony winner Cady Huffman (The Producers), Tony nominee Gabriel Barre (Starmites) and entertainment columnist and actor Michael Musto.
Huffman will play the role of Kenyon’s mother with Barre as Kenyon’s father and Musto as himself, a de facto emcee to the proceedings.
Isaac Klein, who assistant-directed Broadway’s recent revivals of West Side Story and Gypsy, will serve as the assistant director and dramaturg of the limited engagement.
The Life + Death of Kenyon Phillips, according to press notes, "uses an interactive cabaret-variety show format – complete with burlesquers, aerialists, and other circus acts – to explore the past, present and future of downtown performance artist Kenyon Phillips."
In an earlier statement Phillips expressed excitement at the opportunity to stage his show at The Box, stating: “Now the show can really let its freak flag fly. Certain elements that I had to cut from the earlier versions at Joe’s Pub – like aerialists and tightrope walkers – can now be realized. And the new ending will have audience members up on their feet and singing.”
The Box is located at 189 Chrystie St. For tickets visit lifeanddeath.brownpapertickets.com or call (800) 838-3006.
