Tony winner Faith Prince (Guys and Dolls) will lead the cast of the upcoming production of The Cake at La Jolla Playhouse in California.

Directed by Casey Stangl, the new play is written by Bekah Brunstetter, whose most recognized credit comes from writing on the hit NBC television show This Is Us.

Prince plays Della, a legendary North Carolina baker specializing in wedding cakes. When her late best friend’s daughter Jen comes to her for her bridal dessert, Della questions her own values as she must decide whether or not she’ll bake the cake for a lesbian couple.

Prince last appeared on Broadway in Disaster! and has wowed Playbill Travel passengers aboard numerous cruises with her solo show. This production comes ahead of the previously announced staging at the Alley Theater.

The play runs February 6–March 4, 2018, with a smattering of events surrounding the performances, including pre-show food trucks, post-show talkbacks, and more.
