News Tony Winner Joan Plowright Retires from Acting Joan Plowright, a Tony Award winner for A Taste of Honey and the widow of Laurence Olivier, has retired from acting at age 84 due to her loss of eyesight, according to the U.K. Telegraph.

"It is true that she will not be acting any more," a spokesman for her agents Independent Talent Group told the Telegraph.

Plowright's vision began to decline 10 years ago from macular degeneration. She made an appearance last month at St. Mary's House in Bramber to be interviewed by director Richard Digby Day about her life.

Plowright has also been seen on Broadway in The Chairs and The Lesson, Filumena, The Best House in Naples and The Entertainer, in which she appeared with Olivier. The Laurence Olivier Awards were named in honor of Olivier in 1984.
