Sweeney Todd's Len Cariou will star in the world premiere of Broadway and the Bard, an evening of Shakespeare and song co-created by the Tony winner and presented by Amas Musical Theatre.
The show is conceived by Cariou, Barry Kleinbort and Mark Janas; and directed by Kleinbort with musical direction by Janas. Performances begin Off-Broadway Jan. 28 at the Lion Theatre at Theatre Row and will continue through March 6. An opening night is scheduled for Feb. 4.
The show combines two of Cariou's passions: Shakespeare and musical comedy, blending classical soliloquies and sonnets with inventive musical pairings. It is billed as "an eighty-minute melding of superb soliloquy and memorable song by a one-of-a-kind master actor of exquisite vintage in what the Bard might refer to as 'a most rare vision.'"
Broadway and the Bard is presented by Amas Musical Theatre in association with Alan Siegel Entertainment.
