On April 24 at 7 PM at the Palm Garden at The Island Hotel Newport Beach, the Oscar-nominated composer/lyricist will "tell Hollywood tales and perform selections from his motion picture songbook for attendees of the 2009 Newport Beach Film Festival," according to press notes. Tickets for the gala reception and concert are $30 and are available by visiting www.newportbeachfilmfest.com.
On April 25 Shaiman will also participate in the festival's Film Composers Panel, which will be presented 9-11 AM at Fashion Island, Edwards Island 7 Theaters. Shaiman will be joined by fellow composers John Debney and Shawn Clement.
A Tony Award winner for Hairspray, Shaiman also penned songs for Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me and the upcoming Catch Me If You Can. Shaiman earned Academy Award nominations for the scores to "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut," "Patch Adams," "The First Wives Club," "The American President" and "Sleepless in Seattle." His extensive career also includes collaborations with Bette Midler, Patti LuPone, Rosemary Clooney, Barbara Streisand, Billy Crystal, Harry Connick, Jr. and Peter Allen.
