Opening the season will be Tony Award winner Melba Moore in an autobiographical musical entitled Melba Moore: Sweet Songs of the Soul, running Sept. 28–Oct. 7. According to press notes, the production, written and performed by Moore, "follows Moore's life, with all its trials and tribulations, along with her many successes revealed through dialogue and a heady mix of jazz, gospel, and Broadway melodies."
From Nov. 28-Dec. 9 Crossroads will present Daniel Beaty's Emergence-See!, which incorporates slam poetry, multi-character transformation and song. Press notes state "this explosive new play begins on a clear blue day with the supernatural emergence of a slave ship in front of the Statue of Liberty sending New York into a whirlwind of emotion and exploration."
The world premiere of Michael Thomas Murray's Great Googley Moo will play Crossroad's stage in March. Moo is a fictionalized story based on the early pioneers of doo-wop.
According to press notes, Great Googley Moo is a "toe-tapping hit parade of highly entertaining renditions of songs like 'Sincerely,' 'Sixty Minute Man,' and 'Lovers Never Say Goodbye' that become a powerful message using street-corner harmony as a metaphor for creating peaceable relations in the world."
Closing Crossroads' season will be the annual Genesis Festival of New Voices from May 1-4.
