News Tony Winner Menzel to Headline 2008 Broadway Ball, Emerald Extravaganza Tony Award winner Idina Menzel will headline the upcoming 2008 Broadway Ball at the Holland Performing Arts Center in Omaha, NE.

The Sept. 5 Wicked-themed evening, entitled the Emerald Extravaganza, will be held in the Holland Performing Arts Center's Peter Kiewit Concert Hall.

The evening, which will benefit Omaha Performing Arts, will begin at 6 PM with "potion-like cocktails," followed by "deviliciously divine dining" at 7 PM. A "spellbinding live auction" will commence at 8 PM. Menzel's performance will precede "supernatural dancing to Bossphilly," which is scheduled to begin at 9 PM.

Idina Menzel won a Tony Award for Leading Actress in a Musical for her work as Elphaba in Wicked; she also opened the London production of that hit musical. Menzel created the role of Maureen in the original Broadway company of Rent, and her other theatrical credits include the City Center Encores! production of Hair, Manhattan Theatre Club's The Wild Party, the Public Theater's See What I Wanna See and the benefit Funny Girl concert. Menzel's film credits include "Ask the Dust," "Rent" and "Enchanted." Menzel's new recording is titled "I Stand."
