David Hyde Pierce, who starred as Vanya in the Off-Broadway and Broadway premiere of the play, told talk-show host Tavis Smiley, "And in the fall the plan is to take Vanya to London, the original production, and I'll go back to acting in it."
Pierce, who was Tony-nominated for his performance, is currently directing the Los Angeles premiere of the play at the Center Theatre Group/Mark Taper Forum.
Representatives for the production told Playbill.com, "The producers of Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike have begun exploring the possibility of a London production. While there is lots of interest in presenting the 2013 Tony-winning Best Play across the pond, there is nothing official to report at this time."
Critics and audiences responded warmly to the farce that began Broadway previews March 5, 2013, and officially opened March 14. It was twice extended. The production played a total of 201 Broadway performances when it ended its run last August.
The play received six Tony Award nominations and won for Best Play. Original cast members Kristine Nielsen, Shalita Grant and Billy Magnussen were also Tony-nominated, as was director Nicholas Martin. Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike was also honored with the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Broadway Play. The original cast also featured Sigourney Weaver and Genevieve Angelson.
