Thom Southerland, who staged an acclaimed chamber production of Titanic at London's Southwark Playhouse last year, returns for the North American staging that will run July 22-Aug. 31 in Toronto. A Broadway engagement at a theatre-to-be-announced will follow in the fall.
Additional production details including creative team and casting will be announced at a later date.
The new revival of Titanic is produced by Tony Award winners Barry and Fran Weissler, and David Mirvish.
The musical that tells the story of the passengers of the doomed luxury liner has a Tony-winning score by Yeston (Grand Hotel, Nine) and a Tony-winning book by the late Stone (The Will Rogers Follies, 1776). It opened on Broadway April 23, 1997.
Titanic won 1997 Tony Awards for Best Book of a Musical (Stone), Best Musical, Best Orchestrations (Jonathan Tunick), Best Score (Yeston) and Best Scenic Design (Stewart Laing).
Prior to its Broadway return, Titanic will have a full concert staging, featuring the original Broadway cast, a 250-member chorus and the New York City Chamber Orchestra, Feb. 17 at Avery Fisher Hall. Read about the production here.
