News Toronto's Sound of Music Gets Added Weeks, to March 2009 The new Toronto production of The Sound of Music has been extended to March 29, 2009, the producers announced Nov. 13.

Tickets for this new booking period go on sale Nov. 17. The Rodgers & Hammerstein classic began previews Oct. 3 and opened to solid reviews at Toronto's Princess of Wales Theatre on Oct. 15.

More than 80,000 people have already attended and hundreds of thousands more have already purchased tickets.

The Jeremy Sams-directed production is inspired by the recent London hit revival, which cast its Maria though a TV competition series, "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?"

The Canadian revival was also cast via TV audition process. Elicia MacKenzie won the part. She plays Maria opposite Broadway's Burke Moses as Capt. Von Trapp.
