This new production is directed by Benji Sperring and produced by Katy Lipson for Aria Entertainment in association with the King's Head Theatre, Guy James and Szpiezak Productions. It will feature musical direction by Alex Beetschen, with lighting design by Nic Farman and choreography by Lucie Pankhurst.
In the show, the citizens of Tromaville are crying out for a hero — enter Melvin Ferd the Third, an aspiring earth scientist determined to clean up the toxic waste problem. But when a corrupt Mayor and her government goons try to stop this heroic feat, Melvin is tossed into a vat of toxic waste and transformed into The Toxic Avenger, New Jersey’s first superhero.
In a press statement, DiPietro commented, "The Toxic Avenger is a modern, musical superhero and the world leader in the fight against pollution, corruption and evil politicians. So how brilliant that he's finally going where he's needed most: London."
DiPietro and Bryan previously collaborated on Memphis, which recently played a season at London's Shaftesbury Theaatre. DiPietro's other musical theatre credits include the long-running I Love You, You’re Perfect, Now Change, which has been seen frequently in London, including seasons in the West End and multiple fringe productions, as well as The Thing About Men (also seen in London) and Nice Work if You Can Get It and All Shook Up (both Broadway).
Sperring's previous directorial credits include Shock Treatment at the King's Head and The Immortal Hour and Valley of Song (both at the Finborough). Casting is still to be announced.
