The jazz band is joined each week by a Broadway performer, who offers tunes from the Great American Songbook. The series will next welcome Grease star Robyn Hurder, who plays Marty in the new revival of the fifties-set musical at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
Among other stars scheduled to join Traina and his Quintet are Spamalot's Marin Mazzie, Hairspray's Michele Pawk, Curtains' Jason Danieley and Karen Ziemba and A Chorus Line's Michael Berresse. Two shows are offered each Tuesday night, beginning at 9:30 PM and ending at midnight.
Joe Traina, an accomplished clarinetist and saxophonist, leads the Joe Traina Quintet on "Tea for Two," his newest CD that was released in December 2006. The recording features a mix of Broadway show tunes and jazz standards. He is joined on the 12-track disc by Mike Karn (tenor saxophone), Tim Regusis (piano), Scott Neumann (drums) and Sean Smith (bass).
On Broadway Robyn Hurder has been seen in Grease, Chicago, The Wedding Singer and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. She was part of the national tours of Spamalot and Starlight Express, and her regional credits include Jesus Christ Superstar, Gypsy, Brigadoon and Blood Brothers.
The Sardi's series is presented by Joe Cantor and Steve Garrin.
There is no cover charge to attend the performances; however, there is a $35 food and drink minimum. For reservations or further information, call (212) 221-8440.
