Classic Arts News Trevor Pinnock to Mark 60th Birthday With Brandenburg Tour Trevor Pinnock will celebrate his 60th birthday with performances of Bach's six Brandenburg Concertos around the world over 18 months, the harpsichordist and conductor announced.
Pinnock has assembled a group of period-instrument players, dubbed the European Brandenburg Ensemble, for the tour. It includes musicians from the English Concert, Pinnock's former group, as well as the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Orchestra of the the Age of Enlightenment, and Il Giardino Armonico. The group will first assemble on July 31 for a four-day residency at the University of Sheffield, to include rehearsals, workshops, and other events. It will then debut at the Lake District Summer Music Festival on August 4.

In December, the group will tour England, appearing in Sheffield for the official celebration of Pinnock's birthday on December 16 and in Birmingham on December 19. Following the tour, the group will record the six concertos for Avie Records.

Plans for 2007 include a January tour of Europe, a return to England in February, an Asian tour in April, and more European concerts in July, October, and November.

Pinnock founded the English Concert in 1973 and led the group until 2003. He has since performed as a soloist and in chamber groups and has led such modern-instrument ensembles as the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Royal Concertgebouw orchestras.
