Steven Pimlott, Ruth Mackenzie and Martin Duncan are to replace Andrew Welch as Artistic Directors of the Chichester Theatre in September, when Welch leaves the post.
Pimlott is fresh from directing Bombay Dreams for Andrew Lloyd Webber, while Mackenzie has run the Nottingham Playhouse, and Duncan was an associate director of the Crucible Theatre, Sheffield — the northern powerhouse that has also produced Michael Grandage, who is to take over the Donmar from Sam Mendes later this year.
Splitting the post three ways is a radical approach to running a major theatre, and it will be fascinating to see how the job is divided and the degree to which it bears fruit.
