CHICAGO -- The surf is no longer up for "Surfside Six" but Troy Donahue forges on. On Mar. 28, appearing at the huge North Shore Center for the Performing Arts in suburban Skokie, Donahue will play Kim MacAfee's harried father in a touring production of Bye, Bye Birdie.
The Tony-winning Strouse-Adams musical celebrates a pre-bloated Elvis-inspired rock singer who joins the army -- but not before giving a lucky teeny-bopper "one last kiss" on "The Ed Sullivan Show." Donahue, who returned to the stage last year in Love Letters at the Sacramento Theatre Company, continues to put on a happy face as he continues his comeback.
