News TV Cops Play Inmates in Off-Broadway's The Exonerated Through June 29 Esai Morales ("NYPD Blue," "La Bamba") and Mariska Hargitay ("Law & Order: Special Victims Unit") join the cast of Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen's The Exonerated through June 29.

The Exonerated is drawn from the stories of a half-dozen former death row inmates who shared a variety of experiences and feelings with playwrights Blank and Jensen. Most described losing their faith in the justice system, while discovering that it was the resources available to a defense team that made the difference between achieving justice or experiencing a miscarriage of it. Bob Balaban (the actor seen in "A Mighty Wind") directs.

Morales began his career on the stage appearing in the Shakespeare in the Park staging of The Tempest, Second Stage Theatre's Short Eyes and on Broadway in the 1992 revival of Salome. He is also known for his movie turns in "La Bamba" as Richie Valens' older brother, "Bloodhounds of Broadway," "My Family" and "Bad Boys."

Past cast members of this run have included Eric Bogosian, Peter Boyle, Connie Britton, Avery Brooks, Gabriel Byrne, Judy Collins, Tim Daly, Kristin Davis, Richard Dreyfuss, Cary Elwes, Mia Farrow, Peter Gallagher, Jeff Goldblum, Sara Gilbert, Tony Goldwyn, Sarah Jones, Robert Klein, Christine Lahti, Darrell Larson, Chad Lowe, Andrea Martin, Richard Masur, Andrew McCarthy, Rob Morrow, Joe Morton, Bebe Neuwirth, Harold Perrineau, Amanda Plummer, Aidan Quinn, Lynn Redgrave, Jay O. Sanders, Richard Schiff, Kyra Sedgwick, Ally Sheedy, Brooke Shields, John Spencer, Mary Steenburgen, Lee Tergesen, Marlo Thomas, Kathleen Turner, Robert Vaughn, John Ventimiglia, Ben Vereen, Debra Winger and Montel Williams.

Upcoming casts will include Fran Drescher, Eric Roberts, Robert Vaughn (July 1-13), Judy Collins (July 15-20), Susan Saint James (July 22-27), Lainie Kazan (July 29-Aug. 3), Mary Kay Place (Aug. 5-10), Miguel Ferrer (Aug. 12-17), Ben Vereen (Aug. 19-31) and Charlotte Rae (Sept. 9-14). Artists and dates are subject to change.
