News TV's Hunt, Harris, Janney, Perry, Kind Give Ojai Benefit Reading "The Business," Jan. 28 Stage and screen stars Helen Hunt, Allison Janney, Neil Patrick Harris, Matthew Perry and Richard Kind are among the cast of the Ojai Playwrights Conference annual winter gala performance and staged reading, Jan. 28.

The evening, titled "The Business," is comprised of scenes from contemporary playwrights directed by Michael Morris.

The starry lineup currently includes Helen Hunt (Life x 3, "As Good As It Gets”), Allison Janney (A View From the Bridge, "The West Wing"), Neil Patrick Harris (Assassins, "How I Met Your Mother"), Matthew Perry ("Friends") and his father, John Bennett Perry ("Veronica Mars"), David Burtka (Gypsy), Richard Kind (The Producers, "Spin City") and Richard Jenik ("7th Heaven").

Founded in 1996, the OPC is set in the Ojai countryside, a retreat-like environment away from nearby Los Angeles that provides a place where scribes work in-house on their developing plays. The intensive workshop ends with the public readings.

Among the items up for auction at the special post-show event are:

  • Two house seats to Broadway's Spamalot and a backstage visit with David Hyde-Pierce
  • Two house seats to Broadway's Wicked and a visit with composer Stephen Schwartz
  • Four box seats to a Hollywood Bowl Saturday night summer concert
  • Two Opening Night (March 29) tickets to Dame Edna: Back With A Vengeance at the Ahmanson
  • A private concert in your home with Amanda McBroom and her accompanist
  • Two-night midweek spa getaway at both Two Bunch Palms and Sycamore Mineral Springs
  • Three nights at a Mammoth ski condo
  • A three-night long weekend at a Calistoga 1870 Farm House in Napa that sleeps eight, with fireplace and swimming pool

    The show starts at 6:30 PM at the newly-renovated Matilija Junior High School Auditorium, 708 El Paseo Rd., Ojai, CA 93023.
