Classic Arts News Twelve Premieres Among Highlights of Germany's Tanz im August Tanz Im August, Germany's largest dance festival, opens August 17 and will include two world premieres and eleven German premieres. Produced by the foundation TanzWerkstatt Berlin and theater complex Hebbel am Ufer, this year's installment will see 20 productions over sixteen days.
Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and her company Rosas launch the event with a performance titled Steve Reich Evening.

Other productions include those by La La La Human Steps, Jean-Claude Gallotta, Gisle Vienne and Meg Stuart / Phillipp Gehmacher, and pieces by Alice Chauchat, Fr_d_ric Gies and Sasa Asentic. Among the festivals co-productions are those by Xavier Le Roy, Michael Laub and the company Matanicola. Audiences in Berlin will also see for the first time new works by Olga Pona and Vincent DuPont.

The work of New Yorkers Yvonne Rainer, Sarah Michelson and Janet Panetta (who is also giving a master class) will be presented as well.

Backstage, a festival first, will introduce young adults to contemporary dance through forums in which they can discuss their impressions of the performances with directors and artists.
