The first Tony Awards were given in 1947, nearly three decades after the advent of the first theatre awards still given: the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Over the years some of our greatest American dramas won the prestigious award, including Death of a Salesman and A Streetcar Named Desire, and even a few musicals, including South Pacific and A Chorus Line. To see a complete list of the Pulitzers, including the winners from the past decade, visit the "Awards" section of The Playbill Vault, and choose "Pulitzer Prize" on the pulldown menu marked "Awards Organization."
