Blackbird playwright David Harrower stages the U.S. premiere of his new drama A Slow Air as part of 59E59 Theater's Scotland Week celebration. The production opens April 12 at 59E59 Theaters.

Susan Vidler ("Trainspotting") and Lewis Howden are cast in the two-actor work that is framed through the eyes of a family living in the village where the 2007 Glasgow Airport attacks were planned. A Slow Air began previews April 4 and will run through April 29.

The play premiered at Tron Theatre in Glasgow and later sold out its run at the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Fringe Festival.

Here's how the play is billed: "Morna works as a cleaner for well-off families in Edinburgh. She spends her time drinking, attempting affairs and trying to work out the mind of her 20-year-old son with whom she shares her Dalry flat. Morna's older brother Athol lives near Glasgow airport with his wife Evelyn. The owner of a floor-tiling company, with two grown up children, he's proud of his hard-won achievements since moving west years before. Like any brother and sister they have fond and not-so-fond memories of their upbringing, differing views on their parents and definite opinions about each other. Especially Morna and Athol. They haven't spoken to each other in 14 years…. When Morna's son Joshua travels west to make contact with Athol he sets off, for all of them, a remarkable and life-changing series of events."

A Slow Air has production design by Jessica Brettle, lighting design by Dave She and original music by Daniel Padden.

Harrower's Blackbird was produced Off-Broadway by Manhattan Theatre Club in 2007. His plays also include Knives in Hens, Dark Earth, Kill the Old Torture Their Young, The Chrysalids, Presence and 365. Tickets are available by phoning (212) 279-4200 or online at www.59e59.org.
