Silverhill is the eighth drama by Gibbons to have its world premiere produced by InterAct, which is devoted to contemporary plays about politics, social and cultural issues and current events.

Artistic director Seth Rozin directs Silverhill, which opens Oct. 27 on the Mainstage of The Adrienne, 2030 Sansom Street, Philadelphia.

Gibbons wrote the popular InterAct play Permanent Collection. His Bee-Luther-Hatchee has been seen around the country. The playwright's new fact-inspired drama is based on the 19th century Oneida Community of upstate New York.

According to InterAct, Silverhill is "a play about innocence lost — but not by an individual so much as a community, and by extension, American society as a whole." The title town is "a self-supporting Christian community that openly and successfully practices complex marriage and the communal sharing of wealth under the spiritual leadership of its charismatic founder. But when one young member introduces the idea that Silverhill should abandon communism and become a corporation, the capitalist spirit threatens to shatter the community's peaceful utopia."

The cast includes Christopher Coucill, Nancy Boykin, Tim Moyer, Dan Hodge, Jessica Dalcanton, Pierce Cravens and Mary Tuomanen. The production team includes set designer Nick Embree, lighting designer Peter Whinnery, costume designer Rosemarie McKelvey, sound designer Kevin Francis and properties designer Avista Custom Theatrical Services, stage manager Tom Helmer, dramaturg Rebecca Wright and technical director Britt Plunkett.
