Classic Arts News Victor L. Goines to Step Down as Artistic Director of Juilliard Jazz The Juilliard School announced yesterday that clarinetist and saxophonist Victor L. Goines is stepping down as Artistic Director of Juilliard Jazz in order to pursue his performing and recording career as leader, soloist, and active member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra as well as his work as an arranger and orchestrator.
Goines, 46, a member of the music school's faculty, has been director of Juilliard Jazz since its creation in 2000 During his tenure, Juilliard's jazz department has expanded from its original collaborative program with Jazz at Lincoln Center, called the Institute for Jazz Studies, and has added bachelor's and master's degree programs to its curriculum. Juilliard Jazz musicians perform frequently in New York City and have toured throughout the world and to many areas of the U.S.; the student members regularly enjoy coaching, master classes, and performances with jazz legends and master teachers.

Serving Juilliard Jazz as interim director will be another faculty member, 46-year-old drummer Carl Allen.
