The 2023 Jimmy Award Nominees Tricia Baron

Did you miss last night’s livestream, or just want to revisit the stellar performances from the 2023 Jimmy Award nominees? Playbill’s got you covered with this roundup of each number performed at the awards ceremony at the Minskoff Theatre.

The Jimmy Awards are presented in two acts. In the first act, all 96 nominees (who hail from around the country) perform in some capacity. They are divided into large dance-heavy group numbers and character medleys (where small groups of students each sing a segment as the character they were nominated for). Then eight finalists are selected, who each sing a solo number (check out Playbill's interview with the winners here). Marvel at this year's Jimmy nominees with the dynamic numbers below.

Opening Number

The show opened with a mashup jam-packed with Broadway musicals—some from the 2022-2023 season (like Kimberly Akimbo, Parade, and New York, New York) and some timeless classics, like MJ and Chicago. Try to spot all the musicals that were included!

Broadway Medley #1

Featuring Skylar Kline (Kansas City, Missouri) as Bert from Mary Poppins, Langston Lee (Austin, Texas) as Dmitry from Anastasia, Breton Sego (Albuquerque, New Mexico) as Dmitry from Anastasia, Samantha A. Tribute to Touring Broadway

The next big group number was a musical tribute to touring productions. The medley included songs and shows that reference traveling or take place all over the country, from the title song to Oklahoma! to “Getting Out of Town” from 42nd Street.

Musical Tribute: Musicals Inspired by Shakespeare

This next group of nominees brought the house down with a musical tribute to Shakespeare—with musicals inspired by the Bard's plays, from West Side Story to Kiss Me, Kate to & Juliet.

For act two, a panel of judges selected eight semifinalists and eight finalists, all of whom receive scholarships. The finalists then advanced to perform a solo song that they spent the week perfecting with coaches and mentors. Finally, after listening to the solos, the judges chose the two Jimmy Award winners for Best Performance by an Actor and Actress.

The semifinalists were: Croix Baker, Steven Dao, Jackson Manning, Carly Mikula, Mia Nelson, Annie Sardouk, Ayden Weinstein, and Makenzie Woolridge.

Finalists

Maya Sharma performed “In My Dreams” from Anastasia.

Corbin Drew Ross performed “Stranger” from Big Fish.

Samia Posadas performed “Stupid With Love” from Mean Girls.

Christian Strong performed “When Words Fail” from Shrek the Musical.

Anna Wright performed “I Cain’t Say No” from Oklahoma!

Omar Andre Real performed “I’m Alive” from Next to Normal

Lauren Marchand (who eventually won) performed “With You” from Ghost The Musical.

Langston Lee (who eventually won) performed “Wondering” from The Bridges of Madison County.

To end the evening, the nominees reunited onstage for a heartwarming medley about friendship and taking chances, starting off with “Friends” from Shucked and ending with "It's My Life" from & Juliet.
