The company's artistic director Douglas Aibel also announced on Dec. 22 that a new interactive work called Interviewing the Audience by Zach Helm, inspired by Spalding Gray, will appear in February.

The latter begins Feb. 3, 2010, and opens Feb. 10 at the company's East 15th Street home. Playwright and filmmaker Zach Helm (author of the play Good Canary and the films "Mr. Magorium's Wonder Emporium" and "Stranger than Fiction") will perform his new piece "using a method originated by the late pioneering author, actor and storyteller Spalding Gray," according to the Vineyard. In it, Helm "invites numerous volunteers onstage for interviews, creating a surprisingly compelling and intimate theatrical journey for the entire audience from their tales." Performances play to Feb. 27.

Beginning mid-March, with an opening planned for late March, The Vineyard will produce the world premiere of Picked by Shinn, Pulitzer Prize finalist for Dying City and author of What Didn't Happen and the Obie Award-winning Where Do We Live, which was given its U.S. premiere by Vineyard Theatre.

The play "concerns a young actor who prepares for his life to change when a legendary director casts him as the lead in a big-budget Hollywood movie," according to the Vineyard. "But he is not prepared for what comes next, and everything he knows about himself will be called into question as he discovers what it means to be 'picked.'"
