Glengarry made its world premiere in London in 1982 and later opened on Broadway March 25, 1984. The play won the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for Drama but lost the Best Play Tony to Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing. Joe Mantegna won a Featured Actor Tony for his performance as Ricky Roma, a role he would play throughout the production's run.
