News VINTAGE PLAYBILL: The Heiress, Starring Wendy Hiller (1947) and Cherry Jones (1995) The revival of The Heiress, now in previews at the Walter Kerr, officially opens on Broadway Nov. 1. The production stars Jessica Chastain, David Strathairn and Dan Stevens.

Ruth and Augustus Goetz's The Heiress premiered on Broadway at the Biltmore Theatre on Sept. 29, 1947. The play starred Wendy Hiller as the lonely Catherine and Basil Rathbone in a Tony-winning performance as her father.

The Heiress most recently appeared on Broadway in 1995 in a Tony-winning revival featuring Philip Bosco, Cherry Jones, Frances Sternhagen and Katie Finneran. The production earned four Tonys including Best Revival, Actress in a Play (Jones), and Featured Actress in a Play (Sternhagen).
