News Viola Davis, Beyoncé, "The Help" Among 2012 BET Awards Winners The BET Awards were broadcast July 1 from the Historic Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles. Viola Davis, Beyoncé and "The Help" were among the 2012 winners.

Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson, who was last seen on Broadway in The Mountaintop, hosted the awards ceremony.

Davis took home the award for Best Actress for her performance in "The Help," the film that received the Best Movie BET Award. Beyoncé was awarded Best Female R&B Artist as well as Video of the Year for "Countdown" and Video Director of the Year. 

Singers Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj, who were among the evening's performers, received the Best Male R&B Artist and Best Female Hip Hop Artist awards, respectively. Other notable wins included Drake (Best Male Hip Hop Artist), Kevin Hart (Best Actor) and Big Sean (Best New Artist).
