Two-time Oscar winner Denzel Washington will reunite with his Fences co-star, Tony and Oscar winner Viola Davis, on another film adaptation of an August Wilson play, according to Deadline. Washington, who directed and starred in the 2016 film version of Wilson's Fences with Davis (the two also starred in the play on Broadway), is currently behind a feature-length adaptation of Wilson's Ma Rainey's Black Bottom for Netflix.

Washington had previously announced that he had plans to produce all ten of Wilson's Century Cycle plays, with HBO originally attached.

Produced by Washington, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom will be directed by Tony winner George C. Wolfe and will feature a cast that also includes Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, Emmy winner Glynn Turman, Tony nominee Colman Domingo, and The Prom's Michael Potts.

Production will start next month in Pittsburgh.

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom follows legendary blues musician “Ma” Rainey, an ambitious trumpeter facing the harsh reality of the music industry in 1927 Chicago.

The play debuted on Broadway in 1984 and was revived in 2003 starring Whoopi Goldberg in the title role.
