News Walnut Street Theatre Is Eligible for Barrymore Awards Again The Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia announced Aug. 24 that Walnut Street Theatre will participate in the Barrymore Awards for Excellence in Theatre beginning in 2007.

The last time the popular theatre participated in the process was 2001-02.

"We are thrilled to have Walnut Street Theatre re-join the Barrymore Awards process," said Glen Knapp, chair of the Theatre Alliance board of directors.

Additionally, Taylor Williams, chair of the Barrymore Awards oversight committee welcomed Bernard Havard, Walnut's producing artistic director, as a new member of the committee.

The Barrymore Awards program is produced by the Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia and is the only comprehensive awards program in the region, recognizing artistic excellence in theatre.

Each year, over 100 productions, produced by professional theatres in the region, are reviewed by the Barrymore nominating committee. The Theatre Alliance of Greater Philadelphia has 100 member organizations and 200 individuals and promotes awareness and serves as a resource for information, professional development and advocacy.
