Warrior Queens, an exploration of female rulers who have led their countries into battle, opens Mar. 1 and runs through April 19 at Footsteps Theatre Company in Chicago.

The play is directed by Sandy Borglum -- a devotee of Jerzy Grotowski's "poor theatre" -- and utilizes a five-member female ensemble. Danish textile and folk artist A.M. Hendricksen has designed the costumes and set; masks are designed by Brandy Agerbeck; and stage combat and violence are "choreographed" by Dawn "Sam" Alden, best known for her work on Babes with Blades.

Performances are Fri. and Sat. at 8 PM and Sun at 2 PM at 5230 N. Clark St. in Andersonville. For tickets, $14, call (773) 878-4840.
