Two of theatre's most successful artists will collaborate this summer -- on a film. As reported in Variety, Wendy Wasserstein is adapting Stephen McCauley's novel, The Object Of My Affection, for 20th Century Fox. Set to direct is Nicholas Hytner, who made the leap from theatre (Miss Saigon) to film with The Madness Of George III and The Crucible. Paul Rudd, currently on Broadway in The Last Night Of Ballyhoo, will star as a gay man leasing an apartment from a young woman (Jennifer Aniston) who falls in love with him.
A source close to Wasserstein's An American Daughter confirmed the Variety story, though a representative from 20th Century Fox could not confirm, saying it was company policy not to give out information about upcoming films at this early stage of development.
