Video Watch Bernadette Peters Pay Tribute to Stephen Sondheim on Live With Kelly and Ryan

Peters spoke about the first time she met the late, Tony-winning composer and lyricist.

Three-time Tony recipient Bernadette Peters, one of the foremost interpreters of the work of Stephen Sondheim, appeared on Live With Kelly and Ryan July 6.

The Broadway favorite spoke about her decades-long connection to the late composer-lyricist, including the first time she met the creator of Sunday in the Park With George, Into the Woods, Follies, A Little Night Music, and many more. Peters also discussed celebrating the life of Sondheim at the 75th Annual Tony Awards at Radio City Music Hall, where she performed his Into the Woods anthem "Children Will Listen."

Says Peters, "I just wanted to represent the song the way he wrote it and the intention, and it was a privilege." Watch Peters' tribute above.

Peters and fellow Tony winner Sutton Foster will host the 24th annual Broadway Barks—the pet adoption event created by Peters and the late Mary Tyler Moore—July 9 in Shubert Alley. Read more about the cat and dog adoptathon, the first in-person event for the annual offering since the pandemic, here.
