Watch Buggy Baby's Hadi Tabbal, Rory McGregor, and Rana Roy Discuss New Play | Playbill

Off-Broadway News Watch Buggy Baby's Hadi Tabbal, Rory McGregor, and Rana Roy Discuss New Play

The horror-comedy will run at the Astoria Performing Arts Center beginning June 2.

"Wacky is the best way to describe it, but also, at the heart, there is so much humanity and so many layers underneath it," said actor Rana Roy about the upcoming U.S. premiere of Josh Azouz's Buggy Baby, which runs at the Astoria Performing Arts Center June 2-26. "It can be interpreted in different ways every single time you watch it, if you watch it more than once. That is what makes this piece special. It is crazy, but there's reason for it, and it is also the way our minds work."

Directed by Rory McGregor and following its 2018 world premiere at London’s The Yard, the forthcoming production stars Erin Neufer as Baby Aya, Roy as Nur, Hadi Tabbal as Jaden, and Jeffrey Brabant.

Director McGregor added, "What is really exciting is that we're doing the play, essentially, in a warehouse. We have full flexibility of the space, and once people step into the room they're in a different place entirely—they're in this rotting room in London."

The horror comedy follows Jaden and Nur and their new lives in London with Baby Aya after having escaped another country. Jaden begins to have strange visions and questions Aya's identity.

The production also has set design by Brendan Gonzales Boston, costume design by Avery Reed, stage manager by Pau Tobar, and lighting design by Stacey DeRosier. Audrey Rush is the line producer.
