At Harvard Westlake School's 2011 Senior Solo Night, an 18-year-old Ben Platt gave his fellow students a glimpse of the career that was to follow when he performed a roof-raising version of Craig Carnelia's “Flight,” the cabaret staple that Karen Akers premiered in the 90s and was later recorded by Betty Buckley, Sutton Foster and more.

Watch Platt, who will return to Broadway later this season in the new musical Dear Evan Hansen, belt out “Flight” below:

Platt has also been seen on Broadway in The Book of Mormon and in the Pitch Perfect films. Carnelia is the composer and lyricist of the Broadway musicals Is There Life after High School? and Sweet Smell of Success. He also contributed to Working and Imaginary Friends.
