The New Jersey theatre has partnered with Grind Arts Company for the new production of the Pulitzer-winning Stephen Sondheim musical.

New Jersey's Axelrod Performing Arts Center and Grind Arts Company are readying a reimagined revival of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Sunday in the Park With George, with performances set to run March 8-24. Director and choreographer Eamon Foley is adding dance to the Pulitzer-winning musical in a new vision of the work.

See Graham Phillips (The Good Wife), starring as Georges, sing the score's "Finishing the Hat" in a preview of the upcoming production above.

Foley has been planning this production for decades. "I’d listen to the album on my commutes, and dance just started pouring out of it, specifically contemporary ballet,” he shares in press notes. “I felt like it had this untapped potential to move, and bringing the colors to life as dancers on pointe seemed like the perfect way to honor what I first found so thrilling about this score and also bring us closer to George." Foley previously explored the concept with the dance film Color and Light.

Phillips is joined in the cast by Talia Suskauer as Dot and Marie, along with Joy Hermalyn as the Old Lady, Bernard Dotson, Kevin Arnold, Giuliana Augello, Anthony Cataldo, Katie Davis, Bridget Gooley, James C. Harris, Isabel Lagana, Ella Mangano, Dylan Randazzo, and Allie Siebold. The dance ensemble includes Giana Carroll, Alyssa Harris, Lindsay Jorgensen, Olivia Miranda, Sarah Takash, and Gillian Worek.

Foley's creative team includes music director Nate Patten, lighting designer Paul Miller, sound designer Ian Wehrle, projection designer Brad Peterson, scenic designer Ryan Howell, costume designer DW, puppet designer Eric Wright of Puppet Kitchen International, prop designer Susan Bloir, and production stage manager Shana Ferguson.

David Zuckerman is executive producer, with Katie Birenboim, Nancy Karpf, Midnight Theatricals, and Cason Crane and Fran McGill serving as producers.
