Lewis Black is back on Broadway with his new comedy show, Lewis Black: Black to the Future. The show comes at the end of the funnyman’s most recent touring engagement and skewers presidential candidate Donald Trump and the general election.

Black talked with host Seth Meyers on the September 14 episode about his start in show business as a writer. He confesses that before his career in stand-up and scripted comedy, he was a playwright. “I wanted to know what poverty was really all about,” Black joked, “so I began as a playwright. I wrote plays until I was 40.”

Prior to his current Broadway show, Black appeared on the Main Stem in 2012 in Lewis Black: Running on Empty at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

This time, Black takes the stage at the Marquis Theatre—home to On Your Feet!—on Mondays when the show is dark. “My first choice was to do it on the set of Cats,” he quipped.
