Moulin Rouge! The Musical, the Tony-nominated stage adaptation of the 2001 film, is now playing Tokyo’s Imperial Theatre, in a special multi-lingual production. Check out the high energy trailer below.

The production, which features Japanese-language dialogue and both Japanese and English lyrics, reunites the original Broadway creative team, including director Alex Timbers, book writer John Logan, music supervisor and orchestrator Justin Levine, and choreographer Sonya Tayeh

Moulin Rouge Japan features dual casts, with every role double cast. Featuring in the starring roles are Fūto Nozomi and Ayaka Hirahara as Satine, with Yoshio Inoue and Shouma Kai as Christian. They are joined by Satoshi Hashimoto and Yuki Matsumura Harold Zidler, Tetsuya Ueno and Kazuya Kamikawa as Toulouse-Lautrec, Kanata Irei and singer-songwriter K as The Duke of Monroth, Tomohiko Nakai and Masataka Nakagauchi as Santiago, and Kaede Kaga and Renge Fujimori as Nini.

The richly populated ensemble and swing company includes Marie Sugaya, Emiko Suzuki, Anri Isobe, MARIA-E, Tomomi Oto, Shyuto Chen, ICHI, Naoki Inui, Akane Kashima, Sayaka Kato, Shotaro Kato, Wataru Sakai, Rino Shinomoto, Yurino Sugihara, Tatsunori Senna, Ikuma Takahashi, Keiichi Tagawa, Ena Taguchi, Kenta Chatani, Aki Tomita, Kotomi Hirai, Kento Horita, Shinnosuke Mitsutake, Aiichiro Miyagawa, Fumiko Yoneshima, Haruki Robinson, and Mai Wada.

Moulin Rouge! opened on Broadway in July 2019, where it netted 10 Tony awards, including Best Musical, and wins for Timbers, Levine, and Tayeh. Global Creatures produces the Japanese production in partnership with Toho Co.
